Storming the Stronghold IV ... The Thief's Excecution
Congratulations all, on finally killing Gyas. He is the easiest boss in T3, so it should be possible to kill him every week. But the kill last night required some luck in that none of the necros was executed early. A few comments intended to help make it easy to kill him without relying on luck:
One healer should be take responsibility for looking after the impel group. One blue heal will heal each tank in the impel group for 4K. They will only need one now and then. Taking the right route, the healer should not get an impel, but even if he does, all healers should be able to survive one.
PoMs should be increasing the number of spells they are casting in order to keep Divine Halo at 5 stacks. Divine Halo is one of the best heal feats in the game, because it preferentially heals whoever has the lowest health. But most PoMs do not use it effectively. To do do, cast the fast spells such as rebuke and cleansing fire more frequently. They wont do much damage, but they will keep Divine Halo stacked up.
High DPS players who are in danger of pulling aggro should change their gear to higher survivability (health/armour/protection etc.) and lower DPS. That way they are less likely to pull aggro, and more likely to survive if they do. It is pretty easy to switch back when max DPS is required. Some people are optimizing their gear for the encounter, but many are not.
The group composition is sub-optimal. Just as an example, it is pointless to put Phorks in a group with a healer running Prelate at Arms 5% mage damage buff. Put that healer with a mage who would actually benefit from higher DPS instead of one who is trying to lower his DPS.
If there are enough tanks alive, save the conq resses for Necros who get executed in the second phase of the fight. The difference between the group killing Gyas and not was having 3 necros alive for a long time in the second phase.
Finally, not to be overly critical, there are quite a lot of players who are spending a very large amount of time to get one nice bit of epic armour, when they could improve their contribution much more by spending a small amount of time looking at how to play their toon better. Unfortunately these are the same players least likely to read or follow this advice. But they should be encouraged to look at a parse, or better still, run one themselves. If another player on the same toon has better DPS, for example, figure out why. Is it the build, spell selection, spell rotation or what? If in every class the worst player was no worse than 75% as good as the best player, the raid team would be breezing through T3 and enjoying it more.
I could go on, but you get the drift.
