Spell Rotation

Postby Lyss » 11 Jun 2009, 09:03

I was just wondering what spell rotation you necro’s use in raids. A good build is one thing, gear another, but I think a good spell rotation is very, if not most important to maximize dps output.

On my little noobie necro (lvl57) my spell rotation is as follows:
Pestilential Blast (long cast time gives tank time to build aggro) -> Lifestrike -> Gelid Bones -> Flesh to Worms -> Chill -> Ice Strike -> repeat (or GoD, but I don’t have that yet :P)
Probably missing some spells as I'm not even lvl60 yet.

Any comments, suggestions on how to improve?

As nooby necro i start always with

Pestilential Blast
Mark of the Devourer
Flesh of worms
Lifestrike
Ice Strike
Gelid Bones
Chill

Than I start to bash the buttons again with special attention to the frost spells....

Honestly .. it is a good question. I don't really have a fixed spell rotation as it depends a bit what I'm fighting.

If I expect it to be a short fight I most like won't use Ice strike or Pestilential Blast as they take too long .. specifically PB. Also at present I'm more specced towards improving cold based spells so I often use those.

For longer fights I guess I would start off with PB ---> Flesh of Worms ---> Lifestrike ---> Icestrike (mainly because of the cold debuff) ---> Gelid bones ---> Chill

However often I don't use PB (long casting time and less +unholy dmg feated) and instead open with Flesh of Worms (quick cast DoT). If I use Icestrike I usually follow with cold based attacks due to the cold debuff.

I usually interrupt the sequence from time to if Flesh of Worms is active again or lifestrike, but not all the time.

For GoD I tend to use the following: Icestrike ---> GoD (with a Tomb of Elirk, if available .. this does not interrupt GoD when I activate it) ... something I often use to start of SW.
