There are 12 factions in the Expansion, with all of them except for two being in opposition to another one. While you can join any faction you like, each faction offers armour, as well as weapons and accessories that are of value to specific classes. A faction that offers armour for your class does not usually offer weapons and accessories for you too. You earn points with a faction by completing quests (many repeatable) and killing members of their enemy faction.
The chart below indicates what the factions offer to different classes (if you join a faction in Column A, you will be an enemy of the faction on the same row in Column B, so you cannot join both factions at the same time):

Some quirks of the Faction Set-up:
- PoMs and ToSs are the only classes that cannot obtain armor and a mount from either the Tigers or the Wolves. The Hyrkanians offer a horse mount which they can purchase; however, it is supposed to have the same stats as a swift horse.
- Soldiers are the only class that can get all five sets of armor and both mounts, as well as accessories from two other factions.
- Other classes can, at most, get armor from four factions since, in every case except for the soldiers, two of the factions that offer them armor are enemy factions.
- If the ToS or PoM choose to get a mount from either the Tigers or the Wolves, the number of factions they can choose for armor drops to three, since two of their armor factions are enemies to the Tigers and the Wolves.
- If you are doing outdoor quests and group with someone in an enemy faction, they will lose faction points if they help you kill members of their faction; you will lose faction points if you help them kill members of your faction. In an instance group, there is no loss of faction points.
- You can betray your faction after you have earned the rewards you want, so that you can eventually join the enemy faction to get their rewards too
- You need to be level 4 with a Faction to buy the faction armor; however, at present, you do not need to have any faction level to buy the dungeon armor. Plus, you can talk to the faction vendor whether or not you are friendly with them... so, as long as you can fight your way to the vendor, you can get the dungeon armor without having to join the faction.
There'll be more detailed info coming as we head towards the expansion release - including which Faction has what type of armour available:)
