Reanimation

Anyone got any pointers or builds for a Reanimation necro? Finding Nightfall quite boring now - especially as my Demo does the same but with more fire :P

Was looking at this and use Lifestealers/Reapers/Blighted One/Harvester depending on the mobs...

I think as in most cases much depends on your playing style. If you're going for pure melee damage, Corruptors and Undead Champ are your best bet (tested on TL). Archmagi are the best splashing damage, but not much more than Corruptors, if you want to use magic pets. I like to challenge myself in PvE so I never spec for extra armour/protection, at least not with dps classes. Void+Blighted Ones are very useful in PvP but not in PvE.

On Imba I also went with Ruined Blight and NotH for much needed mana management.

I was going for melee pets (4 Life Stealers / 4 Harvesters when grouped; all Life Stealers when solo) - not sure why I had 2 points in the Reaper one, probably just stuff them in somewhere :P

Idea I was aiming for was a debuff/buff Necro with pets - hence the heavy usage of feats that improve Lifestrike and stamina/mana drain.

Some reasoning behind some feats:

- Ruined/Dread Blight: this isn't to buff the Blighted One; I'm taking it buff up the Lifestrike skill.
- Points in Nightfall: again, this was to buff Lifestrike.
- I've taken Bone Horde for some extra melee dmg from the pets, Curse of Pain for extra melee dmg (both pets and players) and Walk with Death for more dmg.
- Void: good for mage bosses I found as well as PvP.

Have to play with a bit more; just wanted a Necro build with some group utility and that was a bit different yet still had a good attack (in this case, Lifestrike).

/edit - played around on TL and quite like the melee pet side of things so I'll probably transfer the build I have on TL over and see how it fares on Live...

Tonight's raid should be a good help in deciding what works and what doesn't - especially as both bosses in the Crypt need good pet control (Champion needs pets out during DPS stop - either single target debuff (attacking with this up can kill the person with the debuff or those around them) or Curse of Gwalhur; Kylikki needs melee range at all times so no ranged pets).

Don't know how much mana regen you get through Pets ... but if I go really heavy on spell weaving (being NF specced) I basically spam Cannibalism (on bosses and longer fights without break that is) and I still got some mana feats from the general tree.

I tested this build yesterday on raid and grinding. Here my conclusion (level 70) added to some /tell observation on it from some people :

RAID :
- top 5 best dmg for whole run
- top 1 on kyliky (pet dmg included for reanimation spec , cant consider solo dmg for this spec) with 9 % something
- Mana : np at all on trash and Champion. Run out twice on Kyl with the +200 % mana cost buff, though i do not have canibalism yet at this level since i went though all reanimation first. Always had Mana pot on before casting SW as well. And yes i was spamming Spell, i really wanted to do as much dmg as possible for that. Used ice strike. I did not see really any problem with heavy SW there. Still looking forward to Cannibalism.
- Used 8 life stealers for the whole run, just called Archmagus for Spellguard mob for additionnal dmg. No harvester.
- Walk with death : used it while i was running away from spell guard (always poped on me....), brillant as well
- Pet Slaughter is useless here.
- General of the dead was good for Champion fight to regain pet life (though its not necessary)

SW + Pet control on Champion was very challenging, considering controlling them and looking up on both their life (in case they get debuff, for not hurt melee) and mine + SW spell boost and casting (mouse macro controlling pet ftw !!! )
Did no get bored once and was always focusing.
Was very good excercice and i really enjoyed it :)

GRINDING :
- Aoe is superb
- Without armor bonusses from general tree i was losing more life but i was still standing (losing 15 % life with armor boost, losing 45 % without)
- Never got once mana problem
- Walk with death : just superb (tested on epic mob/boss as duo with a HOX : can kite while pet do insane dmg)
- If you use 2 Archmagus, here a nice combo to call a tank (tested on Boss and Epic mob/Boss as duo with a HOX, its insanely good - Last 20 sec be careful and make u lose 50 % defense, be cautious) :
Spell - One with death > Spell - No rest for the dead > Undead - Life stealer > frenzy > General of the dead
General of the dead grants 50 % life restoration per second to pet which make it ideal if you couple it with frenzy.
This combo takes max 2 sec and a half to cast.
Do not forget to take out "one with death" debuff after frenzy end
- Pet Slaughter : im still trying to figure out the best use of this. this Champion is very slow, unholy spec, very weak to holy and cost 6 pet point. though it does lot of dmg but nothing compared to archmagus. Still looking into it.

CONCLUSION :
Just superb in my opinion. i found lot of tactic and uses for each Spell.

Thx for reading :) and sorry for my grammar.

EDIT : thx to gert for letting me join at levle 70 and as Necro reanimation :)
Thx a lot to Phorkys for all the discussion about this build and the help for improve my skill.
