Raiding - what to do and what not to do

Postby Gert » 25 Aug 2010, 09:27

What to do

  • Raids reset every Tuesday at 04:00GMT; make sure you're aware of what chars have what locks before signing up to a raid.
  • Ensure you are prompt to the raid; turn up 15 minutes before the raid start time as invites will commence then. The raid start time is when we should be in the instance and starting the fight.
  • Ensure your timezone is set correctly on the forums; raids always start at 19:00UK time (except Sundays when it's 30 minutes earlier at 18:30UK). Raid times will be expressed as GMT/BST (UK)/CEST (Mainland Europe) when Summer time is in force and GMT (UK)/CET (Mainland Europe) in the Winter.
  • Ensure you have 4 hour food/drink buffs; lvl 75 or 80 4 hour food/drink buffs should always be up. 1 hour food/drinks should not be used. If you require food/drinks, ask in the raid before the raid enters the instance.
  • Ensure you have enough potions; ideally a stack (or a crate in 1.05) of 50 of each type you can use. Near each raid instance is a potion vendor so buy some before the raid enters the instance if you need to
  • Ensure you are on voice comms; a microphone isn't needed but you will need to be on voice comms (Ventrillo). Make sure this works before turning up to the raid. Also make sure you use push-to-talk or mute your microphone in the software if you don't intend to talk. THIS IS IMPORTANT AS WE MOVE FURTHER IN HIGHER TIER RAIDING - if you're not on Vent, you won't be in the raid (to ensure the RL can match you on Vent to in-game char, either logon with that char's name or set the comment in Vent
  • Ensure you read any scripts posted in raid chat; these scripts detail the mobs, raid loot rules and roles.
  • Ensure you ask for clarification if you don't know what to do; it's better to ask before a fight than to not undertake the role or follow the tactics for a given mob.
  • Ensure you focus on the raid; avoid starting a raid when you know that shortly after starting you have to go on an extended break. Obviously there will be times when you do have to deal with issues.
  • Ensure you check the epic item is for your class; items that are not your class should be passed on, no-one should be rolling greed on any epic drop.
  • Ensure you sign up to raids; sign up to raids either via these forums or your guild's own raid sign-up system.

What not to do

  • Do not jump around, spam skills or fire ranged weapons whilst tactics and roles are being given; if you are jumping around, spamming skills or fire bows whilst tactics/roles being given you and people around you are not focussing on the raid. Continued behaviour may lead to exclusion from the raid.
  • Release before being told to; once the RL says you can release, do so but not before then as some encounters can bug if people release too early.
  • Loot in combat or whilst people are dead; this includes any drops not just jewelled chest or epic drops (which will be leader only anyway). Looting is done once people have been ressed and any mobs are dead (this includes pulls where mobs are kited in a different area - like in Kylikki's Crypt).
  • Give different orders during combat; only the raid leader or designated callers (for example, DPS in/out on Vistrix) should be issuing orders during a fight. If you do give orders this will cause confusion and may lead to wipes.
  • Do not go afk without saying so first; if you need to go on afk, say so. If you need to go on an extended afk (>5/10 mins) then it may be better to drop from the raid and rejoin once back if possible. If you crash, please indicate this via Ventrillo.
  • Do not enforce tactics you have heard about or used in other runs; if you have tactics, let the raid leader know in a tell outside of combat - they can then see if it's viable to use them or not. Also, do not use this tactics in the raid as it can cause conflicts.
  • Do not ask for people from outside of the Alliance or Guild to be invited; if we have space and there are people from other guilds that can fill them, let the raid leader know their name, guild and class. They can then invite if needed. If people send tells to the raid leader asking for a person to be invited, or a person asks to be invited who is not in the Alliance/Guild, and doesn't give this information they will unlikely to be invited.

This will be updated as needed.
