Well I saw that FallenLord posted a thread with the same subject.

On that point he makes we totally agree.

DO NOT RELEASE PATCHES BEFORE A MAJOR HOLIDAY !

.. as I wroke yesterday

yea game is not playable .. and nice timing .. maybe next patch will be released AFTER the next MAJOR HOLIDAY .. so people can play in their holidays .. ?

Makes sense yes ?

and as Silirrion wrote as a reply to FallenLord in his tread:

The Easter holiday was a consideration, however it isn't a large holiday everywhere, and actually in total usually means the servers are actually quieter rather than busier. So by and large we felt that the update schedule was ok with considering the holiday in many parts.

So in answer to your question: Yes, it is always considered and plays a part in the decisions about the release schedules.

In terms of the test server, it serves a very important part of testing content and features.

As always, after every update, you will always find some issues that only turn up when the masses get into the game on live. (i.e. some issues are purely only visible when there is X volume of users or traffic, that simply doesn't exist on any test server). The test server population do a great job, and the feedback there always helps.

The question always crops up after an update if there are an technical issues, and t be honest it is a little short shighted. If we didn't have a test server there would most likely be far more issues experienced, but a test server is never a garauntee that all possible issues will be detected and avoided.

The test server is most definitely worth having.

Anyways, questions answered.

Well Silirrion states that since it is Easter, and not a major Holiday in the World
( aka this sentance: however it isn't a large holiday everywhere ! )

But I would like to remind Silirrion that Easter IS A MAJOR HOLIDAY IN EUROPE AND WE ARE ON EUROPIAN SERVERS HERE, we are not in chineese servers are we ?!

And IS IT REALLY SURPRIZING that we are VERY PISSED, NOT being ABLE to PLAY in our VACATION, this game we love ?!!

Even though the servers have not in total been down more than like 30 hours, THEY HAVE BEEN DOWN ON A PRIME GAME PLAY TIME, in the afternoon and evening WHEN MOST PEOPLE PLAY GAMES !!

I think COMPENSATIONS, is WELL IN ORDER, and that WITHOUT a word, and you guys in Funcom, SHOULD BE ASHSAMED, to do this to your european Customers, THAT ARE ON VACATION NOW.
( and are we playing here in Europe ? .. you guys in Funcom tell us that will you ?! )
Now wheither you would like to admit that people are on vacation over the Easter or not, does not change the fact THAT THEY ARE ON VACATION NOW.

...

Next time Silirrion, try not to be a smartass and answer your clientbase and customers like they are somekind of idiots, that only makes it obvious who it the idiot, when you make retorts like this !

Major HOLIDAYS IS WHEN GAMERS PLAY, if you people in funcom dont Get that fact .. you guys really need to hire some person that actually has some iota of Common sense.

and at last:

DO NOT RELEASE PATCHES AND/OR EXPANSIONS BEFORE MAJOR HOLIDAYS, DO IT AFTER THE HOLIDAYS, AND DO NOT RELEASE IT ON FRIDAY EITHER. BECAUSE PEOPLE PLAY DURING THEIR WEEKEND WACATION TOO.

This is COMMON SENSE, I sugesst you USE IT A LITTLE MORE.

We understand fully that any unexpected downtime is frustrating.

The updates today are to resolve issues that caused some users not to be able to access the servers and were thus important to deploy, holiday in some parts of the world, or no holiday.

As I said, holidays and weekends are generally avoided for updates, but that does not mean we won't do hotfixes as and when they are required. This was the case today.

So we do very much consider those things when we consider the release schedule.

The team have worked through to ensure that the issue was resolved for those that experienced issues, and as we replied on the other threads these types of issues, while unfortunate, do come under the normal amount of maintanence after a major update.

I think though we have answered these question clearly here, and in several other threads, so no need for a new one.
